Clitheroe’s public swimming pool is to close for three months from 19 December for a £209,000 facelift.

Reefers and Wreckers will operate as normal other than the Thursday night pool sessions, many of the courses can be completed at other dive sites which will limit the disruption to our training schedule.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has received a grant from Sport England to modernise the reception and changing rooms at Ribblesdale Pool in Edisford Road.

The refurbishment, which will also include the creation of dedicated disabled facilities, will take about three months until the middle of March.

Mark Beveridge, head of cultural and leisure services at Ribble Valley Borough Council, said: “We are seeing increasing numbers of people starting to swim again and this grant gives us an opportunity to revitalize the popular pool.

“We have included customer opinions throughout the refurbishment work, which will contribute significantly towards the quality of the facility and give it a significant upgrade.

“Every effort will be made to minimise the duration of the pool closure and support residents in seeking alternative swimming facilities. Anyone in possession of a six-month or annual pool contract will be entitled to an extension when the facility reopens.”

The refurbishment is being funded with £150,000 from Sport England and £59,000 from Ribble Valley Borough Council.
